Phonics Lessons for Reading A-Z Grade K Decodable Books

These explicit phonics lessons are written for Reading A-Z's Grade K decodable books from their major update in 2020. Do you already have our old Reading A-Z lessons?* If so, for a limited time, we have this new file on sale. We've updated the lessons, added a could great new things - including SIGHT WORD CARDS!

Although these decodable books are listed under Grade K according to Reading A-Z, these lessons and decodable books make for fabulous phonics lessons in GRADES K-2 TIER I, TIER II, and TIER III levels of phonics instruction. They would also make for great lessons and text for phonics interventions in grades 3 and beyond. We suggest to align the lessons with your current sound-spelling scope and sequence provided by your district or core reading program.

Note: This download INCLUDES LESSONS and DOES NOT INCLUDE THE DECODABLE TEXT, as those are found at Reading A-Z There is a free trial that allows you to download a limited number of books, check it out! Many principals are more than willing to buy schools or your classroom a subscription as well. It never hurts to ask!

Included in this download:

  • A Scope and Sequence of Reading A-Z's Grade K decodable books
  • Lots of teacher helps, PD, and tips!
  • 33 CVC Lesson Cards (short a, e, i, o, u, and short vowel mix)
  • 3 Consonant Blend Lesson Cards (s, r, l blends)

*Many of these lessons are an update from our older download of the old Reading A-Z scope and sequence. However, we've added a couple new things to the lesson cards, have provided sight word cards, updated the new text numbers to align with Reading A-Z, added the new lessons, etc.... See our old download, but it is out of date. Reading A-Z made quite the change in their K, 1, 2 decodable books and text! We are excited for the many new books & text they have over their K-2 scope and sequence.

Teacher Center: Explicit Phonics Lesson

Welcome to another video of our Series: Teacher Center!
In these videos we use metacognition at its best!

In today's "Teacher Center" video, we will be watching Whitney teach an Explicit Phonics lesson. Enjoy!

We provide 5 things for you in our new Teacher Center videos:
1) Watch good teaching
2) Discuss what is being done/seen
3) Hear about the choices made when the lesson was planned
4) Hear about the choices made during the teaching
5) Discuss what ideas could be improved upon in the future or in different circumstances.

What a great way to learn from each other!  We hope you will share in our learning and be metacognitive with us about teaching!

Thank you Whitney for letting us into your classroom.
We are blessed to see you teach!
