In this video we discuss the purpose(s) of reading and how reading acquisition occurs. We then dive deep into the difference between pronouncing words (word reading or decoding), meaning of words (vocabulary), and meaning of text (comprehension) and the different things teachers must do for each of these different reading purposes.
When we as teachers understand the differences within the purposes of reading we then can be clear on what to do to help when a student struggles. Our students can overcome the difficulties associated with reading. Teaching and helping readers, especially struggling readers, is our favorite thing!
Teachers never have enough time! One of our biggest goals is for you to get more time out of your day. We have a great tool here to help you use your Reading Program and save time when you plan your instruction for all the reading components!
